AuRae Darlene Heidemann, 87, of Denver, Iowa, passed away on Monday night, January 8, 2018, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa.
AuRae was born on February 22, 1930, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Esther Louise (Emmons) and Clark Dwight Burington. She was baptized on January 11, 1931 at Strawberry Point, Iowa. She then graduated from Strawberry Point High School in May of 1947.
On September 10, 1950, AuRae was united in marriage to Reuben Heidemann in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The couple farmed in Black Hawk County until 1986 when they retired from farming, and moved to Denver, Iowa. AuRae proudly drove school bus for the Denver Public School Systems for 39 years. Reuben passed away on March 1, 1999, and AuRae continued to live in Denver. She also worked as a Certified Medical Aide for the Denver Sunset Home and the Larrabee Center. She retired in 2015.
AuRae was a member of Saint Paul United Church of Christ in Denver, and Women‘s Fellowship. She volunteered as a 4-H leader for over fifty years, and received a volunteer award from the State of Iowa for her years of dedication. She also liked music, crafts, and sewing. However, cake decorating was her passion!
AuRae is survived by six children and their spouses, Deborah (Roger) Lantzky of New Hampton Iowa, David (Patty) Heidemann of Ankeny, Iowa, Keith (Brenda) Heidemann of Denver, Iowa, Lynnette (Gary) Mills of Georgetown, Kentucky, LeAnn (Tim) Kingsley of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Kathy (Jason) Uecker from Mingo, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother Harold (Charlene) Burington of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Reuben; her parents; one brother, Forest Burdette; one sister in infancy, Lucille Burington; and one great-grandson, Brodie Lantzky.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Saint Paul United Church of Christ in Denver, with Pastor Craig Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Paul United Church of Christ Cemetery - Mt. Vernon Township. Visitation will be from, 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver, and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
