James “Jimmy” Malik Rathe, passed away at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2018 at the Baton Rouge General Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the age of 25.
Jimmy was born on July 4, 1993, in Aurora, Colorado, the birth son of D’wight Smith and Davina Smith. Jimmy was adopted into the Rathe family by Laura Rathe, his mother. Jimmy grew up in Craig, Colorado and Billings Montana. In Montana, Jimmy attended Billings Public Schools. He received as Associates Degree in Social Science from River Parishes Community College in Sorrento, Louisiana in 2016. In November of 2013 and Chelsea Hampton gave birth to their first son, Avery James Rathe. In October of 2018, they gave birth to their second son, Noah Reese Rathe.
Jimmy was loved by many. Jimmy my love, my son…your smile was brighter than the largest sun…your kindness was gentler than the mist on a flower and your laughter was one we will never forget. My you have eternal rest and peace. See you again.
Jimmy is survived by his significant other, Chelsea Hampton; sons, Avery and Noah Rathe; sisters, Leah Rathe, Uniquial Smith and E’mani Hicks; brothers, Damani Smith, Anterion Hicks and Daren Hicks; mother, birth mother and step mother, Laura Rathe, Davina Smith and Janeya Smith. Jimmy was preceded in death by his birth father, D’wight Smith and his grandparents, James and Evelyn Rathe. Jimmy will be remembered for his smile, his laugh and his gentleness.
Burial will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Waverly, with The Rev. Maureen Doherty and The Rev. Gary Weddingham officiating.
