Agnes Benning, 84, of Plainfield, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Unity Point Hospital - Allen Memorial in Waterloo, Iowa.
Agnes Benning was born on January 19, 1934, the daughter of Arthur and Esther (Hennings) Pries in Bremer, Iowa. She attended school at Trinity Lutheran up to the 8th grade and in 1974, she received her GED. Agnes worked at the Waverly Bakery from 1948 until 1952. On March 9, 1952, she was united in marriage to Marvin Paul Benning at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was employed thru the Bremer County Home Care from 1990 until 2010.
She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley where she was a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent for many years. Agnes enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing cards, baking and cooking. She was a big fan of the Chicago CUBS and any other teams her family followed. However, spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest enjoyment.
Survivors are her two sons, Kevin (Julie) Benning of Plainfield, and Alan (Linda) Benning of Waverly and daughter, Kristi (Scott) Unash of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren, Megan (Matt) Hoodjer, Kyle (Cassie) Benning, Bethany (Dustin) Rewerts, Kaylee (Clayton) Vette, Marc (Joy) Benning, Ryan (Jenna) Unash and Aaron Unash; 10 great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Doris Pries. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin on August 8, 2007; four sons, Gary in 1965, Darrel in 1967, Brad in 1986 and Jeff in 1988 all from Muscular Dystrophy and three brothers, Art, Ron and Harold Pries.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:30 am at First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley rural Clarksville with Rev. Peter Wenzel officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery rural Clarksville. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
