Joyce M. Doepke, 86, a resident of the Denver Sunset Home, formerly of rural Waterloo, died Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at UnityPoint-Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Joyce was born September 26, 1931, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Anita (Cobb) Crawford. She graduated from Jesup High School in 1949. On February 14, 1954, she was united in marriage to Arnold Doepke at the First Methodist Church in Jesup. The couple farmed north of Waterloo their entire working lives. Arnold passed away on February 19, 2005, and Joyce continued to live on the farm until becoming a resident of the Denver Sunset Home.
Joyce was a longtime, active member of St. Paul’s UCC-Mt Vernon Township where she served on the women’s guild, was a Sunday school teacher, and the church historian.
Joyce is survived by two sons, Steven (Loretta) Doepke of Waterloo and Mark (Michelle) Doepke of Waterloo, 6 grandchildren, Christopher (Becky Davis) Doepke of Denver, Andrea (Brian) Wester of Waterloo, Luke (Cortney) Doepke of Denver, Audrey (Luis) Lujan of Des Moines, Erin (Kevin) Bergthold of Davenport and William (Madi Dahlhauser) Doepke of Slater, 8 great grandchildren, Kaylee Wester, Mitchell, Holland, Jillian and Samuel Doepke, Iris Lujan, Harrison and Penelope Bergthold, and one sister, Beverly King. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arnold.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018, at St. Paul’s UCC-Mount Vernon Township, rural Cedar Falls, with Pastor John Cofield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and for an hour prior to the services on Monday at the church.
