Jay Alan Albaugh, 56, of Waverly, formerly of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Jay was born September 22, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Ernest “Ernie” and Nancy (Parker) Albaugh. He graduated from Lincoln Community School in Stanwood, Iowa. On August 2, 1985, he was united in marriage to Shelly Weber in Livonia, Louisiana.
Jay had a passion for helping people in need. He was a Paramedic for East Baton Rouge Parish EMS, Waverly Health Center, Franklin General Hospital and most recently Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond, where he was Employee of the Year in 2015. He retired due to ill health in April of 2018.
Jay enjoyed woodworking and helping his daughters with their many Pinterest projects. He and Shelly enjoyed attending concerts together. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed watching the games with his Mom while she was in the nursing home. He loved to visit the gun range with his Dad in his free time. He had an endless supply of jokes and tricks up his sleeve which were sure to make people laugh. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jay is survived by his wife Shelly of Waverly, two daughters, Sarah (Tyler) Kramer of Shell Rock and Melissa (Tyler Garcia) Albaugh of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Harrison and Calvin Kramer, his father, Ernie Albaugh of Waverly, and a sister, Susan (Dave) Felder of Torbert, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Albaugh.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018, at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls with Pastor Jesse Henkle officiating. Burial will follow in the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly on Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and for an hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
