Norma M. Heiser, 99, of Waverly, Iowa died on May 16, 2018, at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Clarksville.
Norma was born on December 12, 1918, in Jubilee, rural Buchanan County near Jesup, Iowa. She was the daughter of William J. and Sophia (Huck) Bauer and was baptized at the Jubilee Church. She attended grade school in Jubilee and Bremer County. On September 10, 1939, she was united in marriage to Forrest H. Heiser at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. The couple was married for 68 years before Forrest died on May 3, 2007.
Norma worked for Drexler family as a housekeeper and the Drexler Shoe Store in Waverly before moving to the farm north of Waverly, where she lived for 74 years. She was a homemaker on the farm. Later, she volunteered at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community and Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Norma was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for many years. She liked gardening, flowers, and bird watching.
Norma is survived by one son, Dennis (Linda) Heiser of Waterloo; one daughter, Margyne (Russell) Smith of rural Allison; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Heiser of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents, her husband Forry; brother and sister-in-law, Ewald & Lois Bauer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lenora and Fred Foelske, Ruth and LaVern Dettmer, Irene and Gary Weyer, and Dortha and Lawrence Luloff; brother-in-law, Rolland Heiser; great-granddaughter, Carissa Capper; and two nephews, Steven Dettmer and Dean Bauer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor Corey Smith officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Private burial of cremains will be held in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
