John R. Henrichs, age 85, of Allison and formerly of Shell Rock, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, Iowa.
John was born on February 16, 1933, rural Shell Rock, Iowa, the son of Henry and Lena (Ooster) Henrichs. He was raised in rural Shell Rock and graduated from the Shell Rock High School in 1950. In 1954, John entered the United States Army during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged in 1956. On September 1, 1957, John was united in marriage to Shirley Miller at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. The couple spent their entire lives farming together near Shell Rock and then moved to Allison after they retired.
John enjoyed puzzles and fishing, however, his greatest enjoyment was time with his family.
John’s memory is honored by: his wife, Shirley Henrichs of Allison; daughter-in-law, Jeannette Henrichs of Shell Rock; daughter, Cindy Frericks of New Hampton, Iowa; two sons, Jeff (Callie) Henrichs of Story City, Iowa and Joel (Allison) Henrichs of Amory, Mississippi; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Jennifer) Henrichs children Toby and Anne, Lisa (Matt) Mueller children Avery, Gavin, and Vaughn, Jessi (Tom) Fasse and son Hunter, Julie Frericks children Allison, Autumn, and Tucker, Mari Henrichs, Gabi Henrichs, Caden Henrichs, Alyssa (Tyler) Post, Haley (Joel) Carlson daughter Lennon, Samantha Smith and Gabby Smith. He was preceded in death by; his parents; son, John Junior Henrichs, and two sisters, Anna Epley and Henerena Strauser.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 18, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Private family graveside services will be held at the Allison Cemetery.
