Janice Kay Wente, 69, of Waverly, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Unity Point Health - Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, from complications of a fall.
Janice was born on January 16, 1949, in rural Gilbertville, Iowa, the daughter of Frances Barbara (Schares) and Lawrence Nie. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville. Janice graduated from Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville in 1967, and Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in education. Janice taught second grade at St. Edward Catholic School prior to marrying Arlin Wente on July 7, 1979 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville. The couple farmed north of Bremer throughout their married life.
Janice was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She also loved cooking, playing cards and her cats.
Janice is survived by her husband, Arlin; two sisters, Pat (John) Hamling of Vinton and Lori (John) Blitsch of Waterloo; two brothers-in-law, Paul (Yvonne) Wente of Waverly and Harold Bass of Waterloo; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Russell and Rose Bass; a brother, Eugene Nie; and brother-in-law, Jim Russell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 on Friday, February 16, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, with Fr. David Ambrosy officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Denver, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
