Dorothea Esther Gleason, 93, of Denver, died Friday, June 17, 2011, at the Denver Sunset Home, Denver.
Dorothea was born September 5, 1917, in Denver, Iowa, the daughter of Fred H. and Christine (Schmidt) Kurtt. She graduated from Denver High School in 1935. On April 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to Waldo George Gleason at the Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa. The couple farmed outside of Denver until Waldo passed away in 1961. Dorothea then pursued a career as an LPN, graduating from Hawkeye Community College in 1962. She worked at Allen Hospital her entire nursing career, retiring in 1991.
She is survived by two sons; Leigh (Cynthia) Gleason of Peoria, Arizona, Dean (Judy) Gleason of Denver, Iowa, one daughter; Peg (Robert) Miller of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, two sisters; Marie Meyne of Waverly, Bobbi Ecker Blatchford of Chicago, Illinois, two brothers; John (Laurel) Kurtt of Waverly, Art Kurtt of Denver, sister-in-law, Virginia Kurtt. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Waldo, grandson, Michael Miller, daughter-in-law, Sharon Gleason, sisters; Frieda Kurtt and Elnora Brunstein, brothers; Erwin and Harold Kurtt, brother-in-law, Willard Meyne.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at St. Peter Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and an hour prior to the funeral at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or Denver Sunset Home. On-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
